The Open Data Center Committee (ODCC) 2023 Summer Conference - New Technology and Testing Working Group meeting was held in Yantai, Shandong Province. In recent years, with the advancement and popularization of cloud computing, artificial intelligence, digital transformation and other technologies, enterprise solid state drives and mechanical hard drives carry more and more data in traditional IT and ultra-large scale data centers. According to IDC and Trend Focus, in 2022, SSDS and mechanical drives will deploy close to 150 EB and 900 EB of storage, respectively. Among different storage media, NVMe SSD has become a good choice for hot data processing due to its higher performance. Domestic enterprise NVMe SSD has also won more market share with the improvement of product power. At present, there are many NVME SSD manufacturers and products in the market, and the selection of "more, faster, better and less" has become an important issue for server manufacturers and end users. In addition, some new SSD manufacturers are also facing the problem of how to advance in order to obtain the introduction of equipment manufacturers and end users.
The China Academy of Information and Communications Technology, China Mobile and China Telecom led the release of the Enterprise NVME SSD Evaluation and ecological Promotion Plan, which aims to propose standards, share technologies, evaluate gaps, and promote ecology through the establishment of a platform. As a leading data solutions provider in the storage industry, Seagate joined the new test team for this initiative to work with industry partners to advance the elite vendors who are truly invested in NVMe SSD products and technologies, while enabling downstream application vendors to minimize validation costs and risks for inclusion in their supply chains. It also allows end users to use stable, reliable and high-quality SSD products.
Scientific research innovation asks, test evaluation seeks truth. At the ODCC summer session, Seagate also joined the "Enterprise NVMe SSD Test Specification" industry specification. The specification, developed by China Mobile, is already conducting in-depth evaluation of NVME SSD products across the industry.
